The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party in the 2023 election, Adewole Adebayo, has said that President Bola Tinubu risks being massively voted out in 2027 if the country’s economy does not improve.
He recently revealed that Tinubu’s policies are clearly not working, and the ruling All Progressives Congress cannot keep getting away with mismanaging the country.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, he said that the people have suffered enough under the present government, so he expects Nigerians to seek alternatives in two years’ time.
According to him, unless citizens see huge improvements in the areas of security, poverty and employment across Nigeria, Tinubu can forget any plans for reelection in 2027.
He stated that BAT and the APC cannot feel relaxed about future elections because the people have options to choose from.
“So I don’t think that if things remain the way they are in 2027, President Tinubu, in good conscience, should be surprised if he’s massively voted out. Nigerians have suffered enough. His policies are not working.
So, I think we need to understand that Nigerians have options. But if by 2027 something changes in terms of the macroeconomics, in terms of security, in terms of poverty, in terms of employment, then it becomes competitive.
But the way it is now, I don’t think that for the good of the country—even for the good of the president himself—he should just go home and thank God that he’s been president for four years,” he said.
He further downplayed the PDP’s recent decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, stressing that Nigerians should look beyond the two major parties.
Adewole Adebayo concluded by saying that the people deserve alternative politics to steer the nation in a new direction.
“Besides PDP, we have better options, so it’s not a thing that if the PDP commits suicide, the APC automatically inherits the politics. No.
What we know is that APC and PDP are like Siamese twins—they are the same company now. They work together. Nigeria wants alternative politics. We’re looking for a new direction. That’s what people are saying,” he added.
