Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has come out to compare himself to Hollywood superstar Denzel Washington.
He recently reflected on the sacrifices made by some of the pioneers of the Nigerian movie industry.
In an Instagram post, the 62-year-old compared his workload to Denzel Washington, stressing that the American moviestar would burn out if he were in his shoes.
Revealing that Nollywood owes its veterans a lot for building the industry from the ground up, Kanayo stated that he feels lucky to still be living a healthy life after all he has sacrificed to make Nigerian films a force to be reckoned with.
“If Denzel Washington puts in the number of hours I put in the production here, his colour will change to charcoal the next day. Because we built this industry with tears, sweat, and blood.
Some of us are lucky to still have our health in good place,” he wrote.
Looking back at his early days of Nollywood, the actor confessed that the pioneers of Nollywood deserve a lot of praise for building the industry with blood, tears and sweat.
He concluded by vowing to do a lot more to promote Nigerian movies across the globe.
“We started this industry at a time when there was a light called 2K. If they bring one 2K on you, they will remove from your name,” he added.
Kanayo O. Kanayo started acting in 1982 and became a household name after starring in the 1992 film “Living in Bondage.”
He has since featured in popular movies like “Across the Niger,” “Up North,” “Lionheart”, and “Living in Bondage: Breaking Free.”
In 2014, the actor was hailed for his incredible performance in the biographical drama “Apaye.”
The recognition came a year after former President Goodluck Jonathan appointed him to the board of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism Studies.
