Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has accused Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) of deducting N18,912.83 from his account as a monthly service charge, which he described as unjustified.
The 66-year-old posted a receipt dated September 30, 2026, on Instagram. In the caption, he called the debit “theft, oppression” and “independence robbery,” noting that it came on the eve of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day.
Solade said he has banked with GTBank since 1995. “What did I buy from you? … Almost N20,000, why?” he wrote, asking the bank to explain the deduction.
The post drew widespread attention online. Colleagues in the entertainment industry, including actress Fathia Balogun, expressed solidarity, while hundreds of customers shared their own experiences of unexplained debits and high bank charges.
Solade urged other affected Nigerians to speak out against what he called unauthorised financial exploitation.
GTBank had not publicly responded at the time of this report.
