Nollywood actor Joseph Momodu has revealed the requirements Nigerians and other West Africans must meet before they can enlist in the United States Army.
Momodu, who recently joined the US Army, said applicants living outside the United States cannot directly begin the enlistment process from their home countries.
According to the actor, prospective recruits must be legally resident in the United States and possess a valid Green Card before they can proceed with the recruitment process.
Momodu explained that eligible applicants can then take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) examination, which is part of the military enlistment process.
He made the clarification while responding to messages from Nigerians and other West Africans seeking information on how to join the US Army.
“If you are in Nigeria, or you live anywhere in West Africa, and you are part of those sending me DMs that help me join the US Army, let me give you the gist,” he said.
Listing the requirements, Momodu said, “You have to be resident in U.S. You have to have a Green Card, then you can qualify to sit for the ASVAB exam.”
The actor also cautioned prospective applicants against scammers who claim to have links or websites through which people outside the US can enlist in the American military.
“Please do not fall for any scam anywhere. There is no link anywhere to click on to join the US Army when you are outside the U.S,” he warned.
Momodu announced his enlistment into the US Army in June, describing the achievement as the fulfilment of a personal dream and a tribute to his late father, who served with the Nigeria Police Force.
The actor also shared details of his military training, describing the experience as physically and emotionally demanding.
He said the process involved months of intense training and periods of isolation that tested his resilience.
His enlistment has generated interest among Nigerians and other West Africans who want to understand the process and requirements for joining the US military.
