The widow of late Nigerian gospel singer Toluwanisings, Damilola Olayemi, has reached an agreement with her late husband’s family to bury him at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State, bringing an end to the disagreement over his final resting place.
The development was disclosed by the singer’s close associate and colleague, Lanre Alewilese, in a video shared on Instagram on Sunday.
The disagreement reportedly started after members of the singer’s family accused his 32-year-old widow of rejecting their proposal to have him buried at his Ibadan residence, claiming she preferred that he be laid to rest in a cemetery.
The singer’s father had earlier insisted that if his son could not be buried at the family residence, his remains should be taken to his hometown and buried beside his late mother.
The disagreement attracted widespread reactions on social media, with some Nigerians questioning the widow’s position and calling for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.
However, Alewilese described the situation as a misunderstanding between Damilola and her father-in-law, urging members of the public to stop making comments that could further worsen the situation.
He appealed to Nigerians to show compassion towards the widow, noting that she was already going through a difficult period following the death of her husband.
According to him, Damilola had maintained a good relationship with the singer and his band members, who could testify to her accommodating nature.
Alewilese also confirmed that the disagreement had been resolved, with both parties agreeing that the singer would be buried at his residence in Ibadan.
He urged Nigerians who genuinely loved the late gospel singer to respect his widow’s grief and allow the family to carry out the burial arrangements peacefully.
Toluwanisings, whose real name was Olayemi Bolaji, died in Ibadan on October 14, 2026, after reportedly slumping.
His sudden death generated concerns among fans, friends and members of the public, with several people calling for an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding his passing.
A night of tributes was subsequently organised in his honour at the Hall of Grace, Jogor Centre, Ibadan, where family members, friends, colleagues and admirers gathered to celebrate his life and musical contributions.
With the burial disagreement now reportedly resolved, attention is expected to shift towards the final arrangements for the late singer’s burial.
