Popular rapper Drake has said he does not like being labelled a culture vulture.
Recall that the accusation came up on Kendrick Lamar’s 2024 diss tracks “Euphoria” and “Not Like Us.”
Speaking during an interview on Bobbi Althoff’s “Not This Again” podcast, Drake revealed that he has always been a victim of people blaming him even when he is not at fault.
According to him, even when his intentions are pure, when he collaborates with other artists, people still see it as him using singers to boost his own career.
He stated that the guilt-tripping has been a regular occurrence all his life, and he has learned to live with it.
“I experience a lot of guilt-tripping in my life where people are like, ‘No, this is your fault,’ essentially and my intentions are pure.
It’s the same way even in music. People will be like, ‘Oh, you’re a culture vulture,’ or people will describe the collaborative efforts that I’ve put forth, and the artists that I’ve picked up and lifted up or shined a light on as me taking, you know?” he said.
Drake further noted that no matter how sincere his motive is, people still find a way to say his good deeds are self-serving.
He concluded by saying that he is very sensitive to such attacks because they are not the truth.
“They’ll put a negative spin on it and try and tell me that it’s a self-serving thing or whatever, and I think I get really sensitive about that,” he added.
