Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Amb. Bianca Ojukwu has said that the Anambra governorship election has been peaceful and without major hitches. She recently had her say after casting her vote at about 12.25 pm at Polling Unit 001, Ward 2, at the premises, St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Okpuno-Egbu, Umudim Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area.
Monitoring the election in some polling units in Uruagu Ward 2, Odumegwu-Ojukwu hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its brilliant performance.
Voters at Polling Unit 019 and others at Uruagu Ward 2 celebrated the minister, and ahead of the announcement of the election results, she urged the contestants to accept whatever the outcome is in good faith.
She said the ultimate goal remains to elect a governor who serves the interests of the Anambra people.
Recall that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has assured residents of maximum security ahead of the Anambra State governorship election on Saturday.
The outfit recently reaffirmed its mandate to protect critical national assets and infrastructure throughout the electoral process.
The NSCDC spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, revealed that officers deployed for election duties will ensure they act neutrally at all times and respect human rights.
According to him, NSCDC will not just maintain law and order, it will also protect key installations like electricity, water supply, communication facilities and other public utilities.
He stated that officials will be present at the polling stations to protect voters and not interfere.
“Our presence at the polling stations is to protect, not to interfere. We are there to create an atmosphere where voters feel safe, confident, and free to exercise their civic rights.
Our mandate compels us to safeguard the assets that keep the nation running, because the credibility of any election depends not just on the safety of voters, but also on the protection of the systems that sustain it,” he added.
