Award-winning filmmaker Kunle Afolayan revealed Sunday evening that the highly anticipated second season of his epic series Anikulapo will debut on Netflix on January 30.
The announcement came via social media, where Afolayan teased fans with a simple question: “Are you ready?”
The upcoming season brings back fan favorites including Sola Sobowale, Bimbo Ademoye, Oyindamola Sanni, Aisha Lawal, Moji Afolayan, Eyiyemi Afolayan, Ronke Oshodi-Oke, Taiwo Hassan, and Lateef Adedimeji. Notably absent is Kunle Remi, who portrayed the lead character Saro in previous installments.
Fresh faces joining the ensemble include social media personality Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori (KieKie), Teniola Aladese, Antar Laniyan, Joke Muyiwa, Saidi Balogun, Adeoluwa Okusaga (Saga), and Tayo Faniran.
Production for the new season spanned 50 days, running from August 1 through September 19. The series expanded beyond its original location at KAP Film Village and Resort in Igbojaye, Oyo State, incorporating scenes filmed in Cape Coast, Ghana. This cross-border production resulted from a partnership between KAP Motion Pictures and Ghana’s National Film Authority through the “Shoot in Ghana” program, designed to boost Ghana’s growing film sector.
The Anikulapo franchise began with a Netflix original film that launched on September 30, 2022, followed by the first series, Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre, which premiered March 1, 2024.
