President Bola Tinubu has named Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote to head the Nigerian Law School, marking a historic first for the 64-year-old institution.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga announced that Dr Odusote’s appointment begins January 10, 2026, spanning a four-year tenure.
The 54-year-old incoming Director-General currently serves as Deputy Director-General and leads the Lagos Campus. Her appointment breaks new ground as no woman has held the institution’s top position since its founding in 1962.
She will take over from Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose eight-year term concludes January 9, 2026.
Dr Odusote earned her law degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and gained admission to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She continued her legal education at the same institution, completing a Master’s in company and commercial law, before pursuing doctoral studies at the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, focusing on public law and justice administration.
Her association with the law school began in 2001 as a lecturer. Over two decades, she has climbed through the ranks, holding positions including head of the academic department, director of academics, and campus head.
Her academic credentials include a brief stint as visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK. She has contributed numerous articles to respected national and international law journals and delivered presentations at various legal education forums. Her professional involvement extends to committee work with the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.
In her new role, Dr Odusote will oversee academic leadership, administrative operations, and strategic planning across all law school campuses nationwide. She will also coordinate relations between the school, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
