The United States has supplied military equipment to Nigeria to bolster security cooperation between both nations.
US Africa Command (AFRICOM), which manages American military activities on the continent, announced the delivery on Tuesday via social media platform X.
“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership,” the command wrote in its post.
AFRICOM did not reveal details about the type or amount of equipment provided.
The delivery follows recent US military action in Nigeria. American forces carried out airstrikes on Christmas night in Sokoto State, targeting militants with ties to the Islamic State who allegedly collaborate with the Lakurawa jihadist group and local armed bandits.
The military cooperation continues despite recent diplomatic tensions. US President Donald Trump previously characterized violence against Christians in Nigeria as “genocide,” a claim Nigerian authorities firmly denied.
