Nigerian music star Wizkid has responded to ongoing tensions with Afrobeat artist Seun Kuti in a heated social media exchange.
The dispute, which emerged last week, stems from Seun Kuti’s criticism of Wizkid’s fanbase for allegedly disrespecting his father Fela Kuti’s legacy by drawing comparisons between the Afrobeat pioneer and the Grammy-winning artist.
On Tuesday evening, Wizkid addressed the matter through multiple Instagram story posts. He initially shared a video featuring a woman defending him in Yoruba, who argued that his global success has introduced younger audiences to Fela’s music.
The woman questioned Seun’s approach, stating: “If not for Wizkid, do you think anyone would care about your father, or do you think we’re still in 1990? Your father succeeded, yet you’re this miserable?”
Following this, Wizkid posted direct messages aimed at Seun Kuti, making bold claims about his own stature and criticizing the 40-year-old musician with harsh language.
The exchange represents the latest chapter in ongoing debates within Nigeria’s music community about legacy, respect, and the relationship between different generations of artists.
