The National Association of Seadogs (NAS) has installed a surveillance tower at the Area E Police Headquarters in Festac Town, Lagos, as part of efforts to strengthen security monitoring and safeguard communities.
The donation, a joint initiative by NAS chapters in Chicago, United States, and the Festac Region, was commissioned over the weekend in the presence of senior police officials and association members.
Speaking at the ceremony, NAS Capon Worldwide, Dr Joseph Oteri, emphasized the importance of surveillance technology in modern policing. He commended the project sponsors and called on other units within the association to undertake similar initiatives. Dr Oteri also acknowledged the dedication of Nigerian police officers who continue to serve despite limited resources.
“Police forces worldwide receive better support and equipment, yet our officers in Nigeria perform herculean tasks daily,” he said. “We urge them to remain committed, as positive reforms in the security sector are already underway.”
The Divisional Police Officer, Mr Bakare Ibrahim, expressed gratitude for the facility, noting it would significantly enhance security coordination at the command headquarters.
Mr Emeka Achonu, Head of the Saratoga X Chapter, explained that the project aligns with NAS’s mission to promote human dignity and support public institutions in building a more equitable society.
Mr Moses Iyoha, representing the Chicago chapter, said the collaboration stemmed from genuine concerns about insecurity in Nigeria. He pledged ongoing partnership with other chapters on community-beneficial projects.
Chairman of the Area E Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Mr Osita Ogbaji, praised the gesture, stating that the tower installation followed a thorough needs assessment and demonstrated effective collaboration across communities.
