Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is marking his upcoming 89th birthday with a large-scale medical outreach aimed at reaching over 10,000 residents in some of Lagos State’s most underserved communities.
The initiative, organized by the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation (OOF), will run from February 27 to March 4, 2026, spanning two major local government areas — Ikorodu and Alimosho. Obasanjo, born on March 5, 1937, turns 89 next week.
According to the Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Olalekan Makinde, the outreach is designed as a “legacy-driven humanitarian initiative” that reflects the former president’s lifelong dedication to public service and the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
The programme kicks off on Friday, February 27, at the Ijede LCDA Council Hall in Ikorodu, before moving to Imota Mini Stadium the following day. From March 2 to 4, activities shift to Alade Stadium along Command Road in Agbado/Oke-Odo, Alimosho.
Services available entirely free of charge include ear care and hearing aids, eye screenings and prescription glasses, cardiovascular checks, general medical consultations, diagnostic services, and distribution of essential medications. Residents with vision or hearing impairments may also be referred or sponsored for corrective surgeries.
The outreach is open to elderly citizens, children, families, low-income residents, and anyone living with untreated medical conditions. Organizers have advised beneficiaries to arrive early, as services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
