The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has refuted circulating reports alleging the introduction of a ₦5,000 banknote bearing the image of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a brief statement, the apex bank described the claim as entirely false and urged Nigerians to disregard the information. The CBN emphasized that the report did not originate from any official source and advised the public to rely only on verified communications from the bank.
The clarification comes amid widespread social media discussions and speculation over the alleged high-denomination note. Online reactions have been mixed, with some users dismissing the report outright while others expressed skepticism, suggesting such a move could still happen in the future.
The CBN reiterated its commitment to transparency and warned against the spread of misinformation capable of misleading the public.
