Former Governor of Kano State and former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has called on Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to actively prepare for the 2027 general elections by completing key civic and political steps.
Naija News reports that Kwankwaso, who is now associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the appeal in a video message shared on his official 𝕏 account on Monday night.
In the message, the former Kano governor stressed the importance of early voter registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urging citizens—especially young people—to avoid delays ahead of the elections.
He also encouraged Nigerians to formally register with the ADC, as part of what he described as a broader coalition effort aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Kwankwaso said:
“Fellow Nigerians, it is time for every eligible Nigerian—young and old, in the cities and villages, at home and in the diaspora—to take two decisive steps: register to vote with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) without delay, and register with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”
Meanwhile, internal political tensions within the ADC have continued to surface, as a factional leader of the party, Nafi’u Bala Gombe, dismissed any potential political collaboration with Kwankwaso.
Speaking in an interview with Premier Radio in Kano, Gombe accused Kwankwaso of failing to act in the interest of Northern Nigeria when he had the opportunity to do so.
He also criticised the former governor’s political decisions in past elections, claiming they weakened the North’s political influence.
According to him, Kwankwaso and other northern political actors “failed the region” despite being entrusted with leadership opportunities.
Gombe further alleged that Kwankwaso’s participation in the last general election contributed to political fragmentation in the North, particularly with other major contenders in the race.
