President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security.
The appointment was announced on Monday in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
According to the Presidency, the appointment underscores the administration’s determination to strengthen internal security coordination, boost intelligence-driven operations, and improve collaboration among security agencies to tackle emerging security threats nationwide.
The statement described Fadewa as a decorated retired military officer with more than 30 years of experience in military intelligence, national security strategy, counter-terrorism operations, and international security diplomacy.
It noted that his professional career reflects strong operational competence, strategic leadership, and dedication to protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and national interests.
The Presidency also highlighted his previous role at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), where he served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021.
During his time at ONSA, Fadewa reportedly played a key role in developing Nigeria’s intelligence coordination system, including leading the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre.
The multi-agency platform brought together the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces to improve intelligence sharing, national threat assessment, and coordinated security responses.
Following his retirement from military service, Fadewa served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, where he contributed to policy discussions on policing, civil-security relations, and national security reforms.
The statement added that he authored a monograph titled Policing and National Security in Nigeria, which focused on practical strategies for enhancing cooperation between civilian institutions and security agencies.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired general’s appointment would strengthen ongoing efforts to improve homeland security coordination, intelligence integration, and proactive risk management across the country.
The President also urged Fadewa to deploy his experience, professionalism, and strategic expertise in supporting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and advancing national security objectives.
