Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, has criticised Nigerian singer and content creator Nasboi over a viral video he shared online allegedly showing armed men in a rural attack scene.
The video, posted on Nasboi’s account on the platform X, showed armed men riding motorcycles during what appeared to be a raid in a dusty village. He captioned it with a reference to President Bola Tinubu.
Reacting, Olusegun accused Nasboi of spreading misinformation and fear, claiming the footage was originally posted by another page which identified the armed men as terrorists operating in the Republic of Benin, not Nigeria.
He stressed that the video had no link to Nigeria’s security situation and should not have been shared in a way that could mislead the public or create panic.
While acknowledging that Nigeria faces security challenges, the presidential aide said using a large online following to circulate what he described as misleading content was “the highest form of irresponsibility.”
“You cannot continue to intentionally use your page to spread fear @iamnasboi for whatever reason you might think you have,” he said. “The video you posted was clearly quoted from a page that says these are Beninese terrorists. This means the footage is from Benin Republic and has nothing to do with Nigeria.
“We have our challenges but you using your wide reach to spread fear with a fake footage is the highest form of irresponsibility. You can do better!”
The statement has since sparked reactions online, with users divided over concerns about misinformation and Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges.
