The Mogaji of the Akinsola Family Compound in Ibadan, Oyo State, Olawale Oladoja, has condemned former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, over recent remarks directed at Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Ibadan, Oladoja described Fayose’s comments as evidence of what he termed an “irredeemable delusional disposition,” expressing disappointment that the former governor chose to criticize a leader he said has contributed significantly to the development of Ibadan.
According to Oladoja, Fayose frequently identifies with Ibadan by claiming the city as his birthplace and professing affection for it. However, he argued that the former governor’s recent attacks on Makinde contradict those claims.
He stated that it was ironic for Fayose to target a governor whom many residents regard as a symbol of progress and transformation in the city, noting that Makinde’s administration has played a key role in modernising Ibadan and enhancing its status as a growing metropolis.
Oladoja also cautioned Fayose against dragging the Olubadan of Ibadanland into political disagreements, insisting that the revered traditional ruler should be kept above partisan disputes.
He stressed that the Olubadan remains a father figure to all residents of Ibadan and should not be subjected to political controversies. The Mogaji further argued that it was inappropriate for anyone to involve the monarch in political battles, particularly those he described as unnecessary and divisive.
The community leader maintained that traditional institutions deserve respect and protection, regardless of political differences. He urged politicians to exercise restraint in their public engagements and avoid actions capable of undermining the dignity of revered royal institutions.
Oladoja reaffirmed that the people of Ibadan would continue to defend the honour and integrity of the Olubadan stool, emphasizing that the city’s traditional heritage must not be dragged into political conflicts.
