A member of the House of Representatives from Bayelsa State, Fredrick Agbedi, says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should be commended for encouraging former President Goodluck Jonathan to consider a return to politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, Agbedi insisted that former President Goodluck Jonathan remains fully entitled to contest in the next general election if he chooses to do so.
According to him, processes within the PDP are already at an advanced stage, including preparations for the formal presentation of the certificate of return to the former president.
Agbedi stated that the certificate of return is currently in his custody and will be formally presented to Jonathan.
He also argued that Nigerians should appreciate both the PDP and Jonathan for what he described as a willingness to “sacrifice” for the country, especially given the challenges facing Nigeria.
“The PDP has spoken severally about Jonathan running and it has almost completed all the processes. The formal handing over of the certificates of returns is in my custody to be presented to Jonathan,” he said.
He added that if Jonathan eventually agrees to contest under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, it would be in the interest of national service and leadership responsibility.
