Former First Lady Aisha Buhari has described education and human capital development as the greatest legacy of her late husband, former President Muhammadu Buhari, saying his commitment to empowering future generations will continue to inspire national development.
She made the remarks on Sunday during the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Computer Science Complex at Al-Qalam University, Katsina, where she highlighted the family’s decision to honour the late president through investments in education rather than physical monuments.
The project is being funded with proceeds from the book From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, a publication that chronicles the life, leadership and public service of the former Nigerian leader.
Speaking at the event, Aisha Buhari said the initiative reflects the family’s determination to preserve Buhari’s legacy by promoting knowledge, innovation and opportunities for young Nigerians.
According to her, the construction of the Computer Science Complex represents more than the beginning of a new academic building, describing it as the foundation of a vision designed to prepare future generations with the digital skills required to succeed in a rapidly evolving technological world.
She noted that the facility would stand as a permanent symbol of the late president’s values, including duty, discipline, integrity and his unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s growth and development.
Aisha Buhari stressed that transforming the proceeds from the Buhari legacy book into an educational project demonstrates the belief that the most meaningful tribute to the late president is one that creates opportunities for learning and character development.
“The greatest memorial we can build is not merely one of concrete and steel, but one that nurtures knowledge, character and opportunity for generations yet unborn,” she said.
She also emphasised the growing importance of technology in global development, noting that nations investing in fields such as computer science, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, software engineering and digital innovation would be better positioned to shape the future.
Offering prayers for the success of the university and the new complex, the former First Lady expressed hope that the facility would produce graduates who combine academic excellence with integrity and contribute meaningfully to the development of Katsina State, Nigeria, and the African continent.
She concluded by expressing confidence that every lecture delivered within the complex would inspire innovation and excellence, ensuring that the late Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to education continues to impact generations to come.
