Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has approved the implementation of the revised federal salary structure for medical officers and other health workers across the state.
The move is aimed at strengthening the healthcare sector, improving workers’ welfare, and making public health service more attractive to professionals.
The approval was announced in Akure by the Ondo State Head of Service, Bayo Philip, during the annual get-together and send-off ceremony organised for retired permanent secretaries and tutors-general.
Philip explained that the adoption of the new salary structure would boost the morale of health workers and improve productivity in government-owned hospitals and healthcare facilities across the state.
He also revealed that the state government is making plans to recruit additional health workers to address manpower shortages in public hospitals and ensure better healthcare delivery for residents.
The Head of Service commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for prioritising the welfare of workers and retirees through regular payment of pensions, retirement benefits, and expansion of the state civil service workforce.
According to him, the government has already employed about 5,000 workers in different sectors to strengthen service delivery and improve efficiency within the public service.
Philip further disclosed that terminal benefits for retired permanent secretaries are now being paid promptly without unnecessary delays.
He added that the state government had also approved accommodation support for about 150 retired graduate headmasters whose cases had remained unresolved since 2009. He noted that some of the affected retirees died while waiting for assistance from the government.
The Head of Service urged retired permanent secretaries to continue supporting the state through mentoring and advisory roles, stressing that their wealth of experience remains valuable to governance and public administration in Ondo State.
