Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said that he would have been sacked by Barcelona or Real Madrid for his poor performance last season.
Pep recently shared that he doesn’t think he would’ve escaped the sack at both La Liga clubs.
Speaking during an interview with DAZN, Guardiola revealed that he would have been jobless if he was coaching in the Spanish league because its top teams are not very patient with underperforming managers.
According to him, Manchester City deserves a lot of praise for giving him more time to fix the team, and more money to start the rebuild the club clearly needs.
“With the year we’ve had, if this were Spain, I wouldn’t be coaching in October, November or December. If this were Barça or Madrid, they would have sacked me.
But here it wasn’t even a question. You have to have a little more patience,” he said.
Referencing Carlo Ancelotti getting sacked despite winning the UCL and La Liga title last season, Pep said that he feels very lucky to be coaching at a club that trusts his work.
“Look at Carlo Ancelotti He won the Champions League and LaLiga four days ago and now he’s off to coach in Brazil,” he added.
Real Madrid has hired Xabi Alonso as Ancelotti’s replacement after a poor defence of their LaLiga and Champions League titles.
Manchester City, on the other hand, have backed Guardiola in the transfer market ahead of next season, completing the signings of Rayan Aït-Nouri, Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders.
Both Madrid and Manchester City will be in action at the Club World Cup, which starts on Saturday.
