The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal and prosecution of two Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) over acts of gross misconduct and corruption.

The Head of Press and Public Relations of PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, January 13, in Abuja.

Ani said the commission also approved the reduction in ranks of two Superintendents of Police (SP) to Deputy Superintendents (DSP), one DSP to Assistant Superintendent (ASP) and three ASP to Inspector.

The PSC spokesman said the decisions were highpoints of the concluding stages of the commission’s 2nd Plenary Meeting in Abuja.

He said the commission also approved a punishment of severe reprimand on 10 senior police officers found guilty of unauthorised disclosure of official secret, dishonesty, sabotage and conduct unbecoming of senior officers.

According to him, another nine senior officers were given punishment of reprimand, while a Deputy Commissioner of Police was found not guilty and exonerated while a letter of warning was served on one ASP.

Ani also mentioned that the commission earlier treated recommendations on police promotions and promoted some senior officers, including 11 Commissioners of Police (CP) to the next rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs).

He said others promoted were 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to CPs, 21 ACPs to DCPs, 57 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSP) to ACP, 1,348 SPs to CSPs and 876 DSPs to SPs.

He said the Chairman of the Commission, Mr Hashimu Argungu,  pledged the commitment of the commission to ensure discipline among officers of the Nigeria Police Force to effectively carry out their constitutional responsibility.

Ani said the PSC chairman said the commission would accord Pending Disciplinary Matters (PDM) the required attention to ensure that no police officer was unduly stagnated.
