Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has said none of the politicians challenging President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election has what it takes to transform Nigeria.
Baba-Ahmed made the remarks during an interview on the MIC ON Podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye.
The Labour Party chieftain said Tinubu should prepare to leave office, but argued that the opposition politicians seeking to replace him would not necessarily bring the desired change to the country.
According to him, many of those currently positioning themselves against Tinubu have previously been part of the same political establishment.
He said: “I will simply advise uncle (Tinubu) to please prepare to hand over and move away, but not to the people contesting against him.
“Because none of them will improve Nigeria. All those people contesting against him too were all in bed together at some point or another, including Peter Obi. At some point, he was in PDP.”
Baba-Ahmed and Peter Obi were the Labour Party’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates respectively during the 2023 presidential election.
Their ticket came third in the election, behind Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Baba-Ahmed also recently disclosed that he had advised Obi against joining the African Democratic Congress.
He said he had reservations about Obi’s decision to move away from his previous political arrangement and warned that the ADC might not provide the right platform for his political ambitions.
