Nigerian Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has called on United States President Donald Trump and the international community to closely monitor the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
Davido made the appeal in a post on his official X account on Wednesday, as political candidates participated in an election town hall organised by Arise Television ahead of the August 15 poll.
The singer, whose uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election, expressed concern over reports and fears of possible violence, intimidation and disruption of the electoral process.
In his message, Davido directly appealed to Trump and urged the international community to pay close attention to developments surrounding the election.
He said the people of Osun State should be allowed to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely and peacefully without fear or intimidation.
Davido stressed the need for adequate measures to protect voters and ensure that the outcome of the election reflects the wishes of the electorate.
“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” he said.
The musician further appealed to the United States and other members of the international community to encourage Nigerian authorities and relevant stakeholders to safeguard voters and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
“I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected,” Davido stated.
His intervention comes as political activities intensify across Osun ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, with Governor Adeleke seeking a second term against candidates fielded by opposition parties.
The election has attracted significant attention as political parties intensify their campaigns and mobilise supporters across the state.
Davido concluded his appeal by reiterating his demand for a peaceful and credible election, warning against actions that could threaten lives or undermine voters’ rights.
“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” he reiterated.
