Disc jockey, Patricia Iwuagwu, aka DJ Commissioner Wysei, has said that dispute with a show promoter led to her arrest by the police some months ago.
Recall that in April 2024, DJ Wysei was said to have been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Facility in Lagos by the Magistrate Court at Eti-Osa, also in Lagos, for allegedly assaulting some police officers.
The Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, had said that Wysei faced charges for assaulting officers, resisting arrest, and obstructing them in the discharge of their duties.
However, in a statement sent to Saturday Beats, the DJ stated that she was not remanded in prison, and was granted bail on the same day as her arrest.
According to her, the incident began when she arrested a promoter who had caused her significant distress and owed her a substantial amount of money. She stated that after the promoter’s wife begged for leniency, she accepted an offer to settle the matter out of court, prioritising her brand’s reputation over the financial compensation.
She added that the terms of the settlement included compensation for missing items, payment for her performance fees, and a public apology video from the promoter.
She also alleged that in a dramatic turn of events the day after the settlement agreement, upon returning to the police station, she discovered the promoter being driven away in an unmarked vehicle without her knowledge.
She stated that when she attempted to find out what was happening, she was attacked by a female police officer, who broke her eye glasses and caused an eye injury.
She added, “The altercation allowed the unmarked vehicle to leave the premises with the promoter. Despite my immediate appeal to the Area Commander to investigate the assault, I was detained (in the police station). The next morning, Thursday, April 18, 2024, I was taken to court based on a petition filed by the police, accusing me of assaulting and obstructing officers. The case against me was eventually dismissed in court.”
