The Enugu State Police Command has arrested the 74-year-old Director of the Islamic Centre in Uwani, Alhaji Musa Ani, alongside the Sarikin Hausawa of Enugu, Alhaji Suleiman Haruna Sule, over an alleged ₦100 million fraud.
Both men are currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). Their arrest has stirred controversy within the Muslim community in Enugu, with several members describing the allegation as unfounded and an attempt to discredit Islamic leadership in the state.
According to reports, the arrests followed a petition linked to a complaint by a tenant, Alhaji Ezeani Ibrahim. A statement by the Civil Rights Realisation and Advancement Network (CRRAN), addressed to the National Security Adviser, revealed that Ani was first taken into custody on Friday, February 27. The Sarikin Hausawa was reportedly detained the following day when he visited the police to secure bail for Ani, allegedly on the directive of the Commissioner of Police.
Community leaders have strongly rejected the ₦100 million fraud claim, insisting that the Islamic Centre operates primarily on small donations and has never managed funds of such magnitude.
Police authorities are yet to issue a detailed public statement on the matter as investigations continue.
