Popular Nigerian cleric, Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, widely known as Prophet Odumeje, has said some of his former friends repeatedly attacked him after he gave up his old lifestyle and began preaching on the streets of Onitsha, Anambra State.
Speaking in an interview with media personality Nedu, Odumeje opened up about his troubled childhood, describing himself as a stubborn and dangerous young man with a reputation for fighting.
He said his fighting skills made him sought after, as people who were being bullied or had issues with others would pay him to confront their opponents on their behalf.
According to the cleric, he would collect the money upfront and fix a time for the fight, usually around 5 p.m. or 6 p.m., after the Women Market in Onitsha had closed for the day. He added that the fights drew crowds who gathered to watch.
Odumeje said his life took a different turn when he started preaching the gospel street by street in Onitsha with a megaphone, a change many people mocked.
He claimed his former friends saw his transformation as a threat because they were being ridiculed over it.
“I don’t do comedy. I’m a very dangerous man. I was very dangerous and stubborn while growing up. People they pay me for fight. I preach gospel street by street of Onitsha with my megaphone, and many laugh at me. My former friends saw my new lifestyle as a threat because people mocked them over my transformation. They repeatedly attacked me, and on one occasion, they seized my megaphone and Bible before beating me. God never fails or deceives His people,” he said.
Odumeje did not state when the attack took place.
