Ex-Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The unexpected political shift was recently announced via his social media account, and Nigerians have been reacting.
In a statement titled “To the Good People of Kebbi and Fellow Nigerians,” Malami revealed that his mind was made up after extensive consultations and personal reflection.
According to him, his exit from the APC has nothing to do with political ambition, and his decision was taken amid his concern for Nigeria’s worsening security and economic challenges.
He blasted the present government, stressing that the nation is in crisis due to the increasing insecurity and poor governance.
“Nigeria is bleeding. Insecurity has invaded our communities—banditry, terrorism, and kidnappings are now part of daily life, while the government focuses more on politics than on protecting citizens,” he wrote.
Malami further noted that the rising cost of living, increasing poverty, and lingering unemployment are making Nigerian youths lose hope on a daily basis.
Accusing the Federal Government of prioritizing political loyalty over competence in vital appointments, the former minister maintained that it is obvious governance has taken a back seat.
He concluded by saying that he joined the ADC because the party embodies the values of justice, inclusion, and national renewal.
“The cost of basic goods has tripled, families can barely survive, and our youth have lost hope.
Appointments and policies are now based on patronage rather than merit. I can no longer be part of a system that watches Nigerians suffer in silence.
Through this coalition and with the collective will of Nigerians, we can reshape the destiny of our nation,” he added.
