High Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan has publicly backed his wife, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, amid her ongoing sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in a significant development within Nigeria’s political sphere.
In a statement released today, Chief Uduaghan, the Alema of Warri Kingdom, broke his silence on the matter that has begun to capture national attention. The traditional leader revealed he had initially attempted to resolve the issue privately, personally meeting with Senate President Akpabio, whom he described as a “family friend,” to discuss the concerning allegations.
“I personally met with the Senate President and respectfully urged him to extend the courtesy and respect my wife deserves, while also honoring the friendship between us,” Chief Uduaghan stated. “We reached an understanding and agreed to resolve the issue amicably.”
Despite this intervention, the Chief noted that his wife “continues to express concerns about the harassment she has endured from the Senate President.”
The statement emphasized Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s credentials and character, describing her as a devoted wife elected due to the “immense love, respect, and confidence” of her constituents. Chief Uduaghan expressed unwavering support for his wife, stating, “I have unwavering faith in my wife’s loyalty and am fully committed to our marriage, which is grounded in love, compassion, and mutual respect.”
The matter is currently subject to ongoing legal proceedings, with Chief Uduaghan calling on the Senate to treat his wife “with the respect and dignity she truly deserves while the relevant authorities and the court determine the underlying issues.”
Neither Senate President Akpabio nor the Senate has issued an official response to these allegations at the time of reporting.
