Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has urged the Super Eagles to stay strong after Nigeria’s exit from the 2026 World Cup playoffs. Recall that Nigeria’s qualifying journey ended in a 4–3 defeat on penalties after a 1–1 draw across 120 minutes at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Sunday, marking the second consecutive World Cup that the team will miss.
In a post on his official X account, Obi hailed the players’ dedication and sacrifice, stating that he knows the defeat would weigh heavily on them.
According to him, he is very grateful for the hardwork and commitment the national team showed throughout the qualification tournament, and he hopes the exit would not break the players’ spirits.
He stated that they must heal from the loss because great teams always respond to setbacks and come back stronger.
“Our dear Super Eagles, I know how deeply yesterday’s outcome weighs on each of you.
When you wear the green and white, you carry the heartbeat of the whole nation, and I acknowledge the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment you put into every match. But let this moment not break your spirit. Great teams are defined by their response to adversity,” he wrote
Obi further urged the team to regroup and rebuild with focus, stressing that he is confident that the Super Eagles will rise again.
He concluded by saying that Nigerians will keep believing in the national team regardless of any painful defeat.
“What matters now is how we stand, regroup, and rebuild with even greater discipline, focus, and preparedness. I am confident you can rise stronger.
