Ex-Tottenham player, Jamie O’Hara has revealed that Matheus Cunha is not the answer to Manchester United’s present problems.
Speaking recently during an interview with the press, Jamie said that MUFC’s main issues on the pitch will not be fixed with the Brazilian’s signing.
He believes that 2 MUFC rejects, Andreas Pereira and Scott McTominay, would’ve suited the current setup under Ruben Amorim better, and it is a shame that Manchester United carelessly let both players go when they should have been planning ahead.
According to him, McTominay surely has what it takes to be the powerhouse needed in midfield, and Andreas Pereira could have easily been a reliable attacking option that would make the uninspired team more threatening in goal.
Jamie revealed that while he agrees that Cunha is an insanely talented player, he does not think he works hard enough for his clubs and teammates when it comes down to it. Stating that the Brazilian forward is statistically the EPL player who walks the most on the pitch, O’Hara questioned why MUFC would be adding such laziness to their team ahead of next season.
He maintained that the player himself should have lots of reservations about signing for the Red Devils this summer because the team is far from good enough at this point, and apart from club captain, Bruno Fernandes, MUFC is currently nothing to write home about.
“I’m a bit sceptical of Matheus Cunha. He’s a brilliantly talented footballer, but has he got the desire to become the best he can be, week-in, week-out for Manchester United? That means working hard and grafting. Cunha is the player that walks the most in the Premier League – is that going to cut it at United? I’m not sure.
Man United need a centre-midfielder, but Cunha is more of a forward-thinking player. They got rid of a player that would absolutely suit Ruben Amorim’s system, Scott McTominay – he’s lighting up Serie A at the moment. Andreas Pereira is another player United got rid of that would be a perfect fit for them.
If I was in Cunha’s position, I’d be wondering if I wanted to sign for United in the first place, given their situation; I’m not convinced they’re a good enough side. They were terrible against Wolves and I don’t know where the club is headed in the near future. Apart from Bruno Fernandes, United have nothing else going for them,” he said.
