The Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has approved the recruitment of 1,800 health workers to address staffing shortages across all Primary Health Care facilities in Kaduna State.

In a statement on Thursday, the Commissioner for Health, Umma Ahmad, said the recruitment aims to strengthen Kaduna’s position as a leader in Primary Health Care services.

According to her, the initiative will help bridge human resource gaps in healthcare facilities, significantly reducing maternal and child mortality while enhancing the overall well-being of Kaduna residents.

She further highlighted the ongoing revitalization of 255 PHC facilities, the provision of state-of-the-art equipment, and the distribution of essential drugs across the state.

The commissioner added that all 255 PHCs will be remodeled and upgraded to Level 2 status as part of Governor Uba Sani’s comprehensive health sector reform.

Umma said the upgraded facilities will be equipped to manage uncomplicated diabetes and hypertension, provide resuscitation for severe asthma, assist with deliveries, and offer other essential healthcare services.

She said, “Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Governor Sani has prioritised the health sector, a commitment reflected in the numerous awards his administration has received.

“The governor’s efforts have been recognised with 10 national and international awards, including the prestigious Excellence Award from the International Supply Chain Education Alliance (ISCEA).”

The commissioner also noted that under the current administration, quality healthcare is not a privilege but a fundamental human right.

She cited Kaduna’s ranking as the best-performing state in Primary Health Care in the North West zone, an achievement recognized through the PHC Leadership Challenge award.
