King Charles III of the United Kingdom has been diagnosed with cancer, Buckingham Palace confirmed Monday morning. The diagnosis is separate from his previously reported enlarged prostate.
The specific type of cancer has not been disclosed at this time.
This news follows the recent discharge of both Kate and King Charles from a private London clinic. The king underwent a “corrective procedure” for his enlarged prostate, while Kate, 42, underwent unspecified abdominal surgery on January 17th.
“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties,” the statement added.
King Charles ascended the throne last year in a May coronation ceremony following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September 2022. Queen Elizabeth II held the throne for 70 years, making her Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.
While Kate continues her recovery, Prince William is scheduled to resume his royal duties by attending the London’s Air Ambulance Charity Gala Dinner on Wednesday.
