Korede Bello, Nigerian singer has shared candid reflections on his Christian faith, urging believers to shift their focus from Christ’s death to His resurrection.
In a video posted to Instagram, the artist questioned why many Christians remain fixated on the crucifixion when Jesus has already risen.
“Does Jesus still belong on the cross? Before you crucify me, know that I am a Christian, and Christ has already died for me. He has already been crucified, so there’s no need for that. Jesus never said, ‘Remember me on the cross.’ Am I saying the cross isn’t important? No,” he stated.
Bello explained that the revelation came during prayer when he looked at a crucifix and realized Christ is no longer there but seated beside God the Father.
“I was praying and looking at the cross when it hit me ,He’s no longer on it. When I think of Jesus, I think of my identity as seated right next to the Father. That’s where I am,” he said.
The musician emphasized that resurrection is the cornerstone of Christian faith, referencing Apostle Paul’s teaching: “If Christ has not risen, then your faith is futile.”
Born and raised Muslim, Bello revealed he converted to Christianity after personally studying the Bible. “I was not born a Christian. I was born a Muslim. I had to start with the Bible myself—not for religious reasons, but for personal reasons,” he shared.
He expressed concern that excessive focus on the crucifixion misses the point of Christ’s victory. “Our faith and identity are in the Christ who has ascended and is right next to the Father. The cross carried our sins—the old identity is gone. Staying there is like nailing Christ over and over again,” Bello argued.
He reminded believers that love should be the defining mark of Christian identity, quoting Jesus: “People will know you’re my followers by the love you have for each other.”
Bello also noted that communion, not the cross, is the proper act of remembrance commemorating both Christ’s sacrifice and triumph.
