The Lagos State Government and MTN Nigeria have joined forces to redesign the Obalende underbridge area into a contemporary transport facility called the Y’ELLO Bus Park.
Lagos State’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, revealed the initiative via X on Tuesday, describing it as a transformation of a previously deteriorated location into a safe, organized community space.
The redeveloped facility will house a regulated transport terminal, recycling collection point, operations base for LAWMA personnel and security forces, more than 60 public restrooms, retail kiosks, and additional facilities for commuters and local residents.
“Safety, public health, and visual appeal are central to this design. Solar-powered lighting will improve visibility after dark, eliminate dark corners, and strengthen CCTV monitoring—helping to reduce crime and boost security around Obalende,” Wahab explained.
The Commissioner noted that a biodigester system will handle wastewater treatment in an environmentally responsible manner, while the recycling station aims to prevent unauthorized dumping in the vicinity.
Solar panel installations will promote energy efficiency and lower emissions, supporting Lagos State’s environmental goals, Wahab said. Tree planting initiatives are also planned to improve air quality and beautify the surroundings.
Wahab emphasized that the project demonstrates the government’s dedication to reclaiming and upgrading public areas, ensuring they are practical, sustainable, and secure while meeting the contemporary needs of Lagos residents.
