The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has explained the reason why she paused her planned resumption to the Senate for legislative duties.
She recently revealed that she shelved her plans to resume after receiving legal advice.
Speaking during an interview with African Independent Television (AIT), Natasha said that she intends to wait for the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment before making her next move.
According to her, because she is a politician who fully respects procedures, she’ll do everything within her power to make sure all the rules and regulations regarding her return to the senate are followed.
She stated that being prevented from accessing the chambers has gone a long way towards silencing Kogi Central, but the wait will be over soon.
“By keeping me out of the chambers, the Senate is not just silencing Kogi Central—it’s denying Nigerian women and children representation. We are only three female senators now, down from eight,” she said.
Natasha disclosed that despite being out of the chambers, she has been spending time reaching out to constituents to oversee the various constituency projects she is a part of.
Listing some of her achievements since her suspension, she highlighted the installation of solar-powered streetlights, groundbreaking for smart markets across local governments, and the distribution of hundreds of laptops to students at Meseta Memorial College.
“I remained active throughout. These are personal initiatives—I was hoping to finish the gold bill and move on to others like lithium and red mineral legislation. I can’t simply hand them over to others,” Natasha said.
The Senator reaffirmed her commitment to her legislative functions, stressing that she remains dedicated to the development of not just Kogi Central but Nigeria as a whole.
“I believe in the judiciary, I’m not giving up,” she added.
