Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has said that the club has been very unlucky with how recent seasons have panned out.
He recently broke down how Liverpool winning the English Premier League title with fewer points than Arsenal in the last two seasons proves his team’s bad luck.
Liverpool were officially crowned champions with 82 points weeks back, and in comparison, Arsenal clinched 89 points last season, and 84 the year before. However, both campaigns still ended in disappointment for the Gunners as Manchester City won the EPL twice in a row.
Speaking during an interview with the press, Arteta revealed that Liverpool winning the title with fewer points than the North London club has had in the last 2 seasons is proof that his boys did not have luck on their side in both title races.
According to him, football is simply about being in the right place at the right moment, and that is just the lucky side of the game Arsenal football club has been unable to crack in recent years.
Mikel insisted that his team has done more than enough to finally lift major trophies in the past 2 seasons, and it is always a shame to see their efforts go to waste right before the end.
“We’re going to try to do this season. Winning trophies as well is about being in the right moment, in the right place. Liverpool have won the title with fewer points than we have in the last two seasons. With the points of the last two seasons, we would have two Premier League titles. So, you have to be at the right moment, in the right place,” he said.
Mikel believes if his players can be in the right place in Paris tomorrow, they might finally lead the club to another UCL final after several years.
“Hopefully, here we are in the right moment, in the right place in Paris tomorrow, to earn the right to be in the final,” he added.
Arsenal travel to Parc des Princes trailing 1-0 on aggregate, after Ousmane Dembele’s wonder strike gave PSG the edge heading into the return leg. The French champions will now look to make home advantage count in Paris in their quest to win their first UEFA Champions League trophy.
Arsenal, on the other hand, must deliver a strong away performance to reach their first UEFA Champions League final since 2006.
Win or lose in Europe, however, the struggle continues for the Gunners in England. Arsenal still have a lot of work to do to seal their qualification for UCL football next season via the EPL. Mikel Arteta’s boys currently sit 6 points clear of sixth position with just three English Premier League matches left to play.
