The Club Cricket Committee Lagos League is heating up in the new year as the 2025/26 season enters a crucial phase across both Premier and First Divisions, delighting organizers and their headline sponsor.
The competition entered its sixth week over the weekend, with Premier League leaders Ibeju Lekki Cricket Club continuing their impressive form through a three-wicket victory against Rocks of Abeokuta. Government College Ibadan secured a commanding 78-run win over MRI Warriors, while defending champions Rising Stars Cricket Club defeated Federal Government College Warri by eight wickets.
Individual performances are also drawing attention. Rising Stars’ Vishal Sharma leads all batsmen with 185 runs, while Dada Toluwalase tops the First Division scoring charts with 161 runs. With the ball, Chimezie Onwuzulike of Rising Stars has emerged as the league’s leading wicket-taker with 11 dismissals. Division One’s bowling charts are led by Lagos Asians’ Mahesh Sharma, also with 11 wickets.
The league’s partnership with Sterling Bank has elevated standards and player performance while creating a platform for elite cricketers and strengthening the sport’s commercial viability.
CCC Chairman and former Yellow Greens captain Endurance Ofem praised the partnership’s immediate impact. “Sterling Bank’s involvement brought a new level of professional rigour to the league. Players are now competing in an ecosystem that values their talent and rewards their hard work.”
Sterling Bank’s Chief Marketing Officer, Donatus Okpako, expressed satisfaction with the league’s progress. “We sought to be the engine promoting local excellence in a sport often ignored. Seeing talents break records weeks into this journey confirms that with the right financial and structural support, our local talents can compete globally.”
Week seven Premier League matches will take place Saturday and Sunday at the UNILAG and TBS Cricket Ovals, while Division One enters week eight. Ibeju Lekki and Lagos Asians each hold eight points atop their respective Division One groups.
