Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, Nigerian comedian cum actor, Debo Adebayo popularly called Mr Macaroni has advised Nigerians to avoid religious leaders encouraging them to vote along ethnic lines.
Applesbite reports that Macaroni made this known in a post shared on the microblogging platform, Twitter while reacting to a viral clip of a pastor encouraging members of his congregation to vote a presidential candidate who is of their own ethnic group.
Macaroni had advised Nigerians to pay no heed to such religious leaders, asking them to vote wisely.
“Dear Nigerians, If your religious leader is asking you to abandon all the qualities of a good leader and vote for the next President of this Nation just because you are from the same tribe as the candidate, then there is serious fire on the mountain. RUN!!,” he wrote. “Vote Wisely”
Keyamo warns Pastors
The Minister of State for Labor, Festus Keyamo, recently sent a message to Nigerian pastors ahead of the 2023 election.
Speaking during an interview, Keyamo warned pastors to be mindful of political predictions as they might regret the outcome after the 2023 polls.
He advised pastors to learn from the 2015 election and avoid throwing their weight behind any presidential candidate.
He insisted that Clergymen must lead people to the kingdom of God and not the presidential villa.
According to him: “Having pastors tilt towards a particular candidate is a good thing for the country but after they fail, they will now go back to their core mandate. It is a mistake they are making and it is important they make it. I thought they would have learnt their lessons to separate the church from politics in 2015; they have not.”
