Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, is set to return to the National Assembly later this month after completing her six-month suspension, her lawyer has confirmed. Her counsel, Victor Giwa, recently revealed that the senator is already making plans to resume plenary alongside her colleagues when the Senate reconvenes on the 23rd of September.
Speaking during an interview with The PUNCH in Abuja, Giwa disclosed that after the expiration of her suspension, all that is left is Natasha’s resumption.
According to him, the Senate leadership is not expected to obstruct his client’s return on the 23rd, and his sources have confirmed that her fellow senators are ready to welcome her back.
“Actually, she’s ready to resume her term. She’s in London. Everything is in place, and the six months have expired. The only thing left is her resumption.
We have been told that even the leadership of the Senate is ready to welcome her. So that’s the situation at the moment. There is no obstacle at all,” he said.
Natasha’s lawyer maintained that pending legal disputes would not hinder her return as well.
He concluded by saying that the lengthy saga involving his client and the Senate is finally about to end.
“Everything will be resolved. Even the court cases will become like an academic exercise,” he added.
Efforts to reach the Senate leadership to get a reaction have been unsuccessful thus far, as calls and messages to Senate spokesman Yemi Adaramodu and Akpabio’s media aide were not answered.
