Nigeria’s digital content industry is witnessing significant growth, with the number of active content creators across the country surpassing 250,000, according to a new industry report.

The report highlights the rapid expansion of Nigeria’s creator economy, driven by increasing internet access, the widespread adoption of social media platforms, and the rise of digital entrepreneurship among young Nigerians.

Content creation has evolved from a hobby into a viable source of income for thousands of individuals who produce videos, podcasts, blogs, photography, educational content, comedy skits, lifestyle content, and other forms of digital media. Platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, and other emerging digital channels have provided creators with opportunities to build audiences, attract brand partnerships, and generate revenue.

Analysts noted that performance-driven marketing has played a major role in the sector’s growth, with businesses increasingly partnering with creators to promote products and services. Brands are shifting portions of their advertising budgets from traditional media to digital influencers and content creators who can engage targeted audiences more effectively.

The report further revealed that the creator economy is becoming a key contributor to Nigeria’s broader digital ecosystem, creating employment opportunities and supporting ancillary industries such as digital marketing, video production, graphic design, talent management, and technology services.

Industry stakeholders believe the sector still has substantial room for expansion as more Nigerians gain access to affordable internet services and digital tools. They also pointed to the growing popularity of short-form video content and creator-led communities as factors expected to accelerate growth in the coming years.

Experts, however, emphasized the need for improved digital infrastructure, better monetisation opportunities, and supportive policies to help creators maximize their earning potential and compete globally.

With over 250,000 active creators already participating in the industry, Nigeria is increasingly positioning itself as one of Africa’s leading hubs for digital content creation and online entrepreneurship.
