The Lagos State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has announced the appointment of former Minister of State for Defence and ex-Senator, Musiliu Obanikoro, as the Director-General of his 2027 governorship campaign.
The announcement was made during an expanded meeting of the campaign council held in Lagos, where Hamzat formally unveiled key members of his campaign structure as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to party insiders, the decision is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the campaign’s political machinery, deepen grassroots mobilisation, and consolidate support across the state.
Obanikoro, a seasoned politician and influential figure in Lagos politics, previously served as Senator representing Lagos Central and later as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Ghana. His appointment is expected to bring significant political experience and network strength to Hamzat’s governorship ambition.
The campaign council meeting, which was attended by senior party stakeholders and supporters, also focused on coordination strategies, outreach programmes, and plans to unify various political blocs within the state.
Hamzat’s camp believes that Obanikoro’s inclusion as Campaign DG will enhance the structure’s visibility and effectiveness, particularly in mobilising key political actors and strengthening voter engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development marks a significant step in the early build-up to the Lagos governorship race, as political alignments continue to take shape within the ruling APC in the state.
