Ogun State is set for six days of youthful energy and sporting excellence as the Wamufat Youth Community Development Foundation (WYCDF) rolls out the second edition of the Wamufat Sports Camp, featuring Run Ogun, from August 3 to 8, 2026.
The camp, organised in partnership with the Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF), the United States-based Run Your City (RYC), and Agroterra Resort, continues its mission of empowering young athletes through sport and values, building on a template that has already won hearts across the state.
Over six days, children between the ages of seven and fourteen will receive free coaching across multiple disciplines, alongside mentorship and character development sessions, all building toward a vibrant community Race Day on Saturday, August 8. The camp is anchored on the belief that every child deserves access to the transformative power of sport, blending training in athletics, football, chess, golf, tennis, and netball with a daily curriculum built around six core values: gratitude, respect, curiosity, teamwork, resilience, and integrity. Guided by a dedicated team of coaches and mentors, the young participants will spend the week learning discipline and self-belief before showcasing their growth at the public Race Day celebration.
This second edition builds on the landmark success of the inaugural camp held in August 2025, which brought together more than 450 children at the Agroterra Sports Complex in Joga-Orile, Ogun State. Post-camp evaluations from that outing revealed that nearly 60 percent of participants tried a new sport for the first time, with confidence levels rising significantly and the overall experience rated an impressive 9 out of 10. The first edition also drew Nigerian sporting icons, including Olympic medallist Mary Onyali and former Super Eagles international Mutiu Adepoju, who inspired and mentored the young athletes.
“Last year showed us what’s possible when a community rallies around its children,” said Fatimoh Muhammed, President of WYCDF. “This second edition is about going further — reaching more children, deepening the mentorship, and reminding every young person that they matter, on and off the field.”
This year’s camp again unites international and local partners in delivering the programme. NSSF leads technical delivery and operations, RYC contributes coaching and storytelling drawn from its global Run Your City movement — which also runs chapters such as Run Bugesera and Run Kochi — while Agroterra Resort provides the venue that has become synonymous with the initiative. The August 8 Race Day, themed Integrity and Honesty, will feature age-category races, an awards ceremony, and a closing celebration for the entire community.
