The Lagos Polo Club has banned real estate magnate Sir Olu Okeowo after an alleged assault of a club staff member by one of his security aides during an event at the club’s Ikoyi premises. The club’s honorable secretary, Mr. Adeyemi Oreagba, recently announced that Olu Okeowo was declared “barred from entry into the club premises, either as a guest or otherwise, until further notice.”
According to him, the incident happened last Saturday during the Reminisce Event hosted at the club grounds, when a security personnel guarding Okeowo “violently assaulted a staff member while he was performing his duty.”
He stated that such violent conduct is a direct violation of one of the Polo Club’s vital rules of decorum and member conduct.
“This action of the security personnel attached to Sir Olu Okeowo negates one of the club’s main ground rules.
Accordingly, Sir Olu Okeowo is hereby banned from entering the club premises, either as a guest or otherwise, until further notice,” he said.
The announcement has triggered mixed reactions within Lagos’ elite social circles, where Sir Okeowo, Chairman of Gibraltar Group, is popular for his charity efforts, lavish lifestyle and heavy presence at high-profile gatherings.
As of the time of this report, neither Olu Okeowo nor Gibraltar Group reps have reacted to the club’s announcement.
