A senior Peoples Democratic Party figure, Adetokunbo Pearse, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against compromising the integrity of the 2027 general elections, warning that electoral malpractice could trigger serious international repercussions.
Pearse, formerly on the PDP Board of Trustees, emphasized that Nigeria’s electoral processes now face unprecedented global attention. He suggested that any attempts to manipulate results could damage the country’s international standing and warned that the days of unchallenged electoral irregularities are coming to an end.
The party stalwart called on the administration to focus on governance and meaningful reforms instead of election strategizing. He stressed that undermining democratic principles could further diminish Nigeria’s reputation internationally and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to maintain its independence from political influence.
Highlighting international accountability mechanisms, Pearse expressed optimism that Nigerian voters would reject electoral manipulation in 2027. He encouraged citizens to stay alert and demand accountability from their leaders.
“The entire international community is watching closely. If elections are rigged as they have been in the past, there could be serious consequences. You might find international figures taking unprecedented action,” Pearse stated during an appearance on Arise TV.
He argued that 2027 represents a critical moment for Nigeria’s electoral credibility and called on INEC to safeguard the democratic process. According to Pearse, the nation’s stability hinges on conducting transparent and credible elections.
