Lukman Olayiwola, 38, was apprehended by the Monitoring Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, Oyo Base, Durbar, Oyo State, and arraigned August 14, before His Worship S.T. Tolani-Balogun, the presiding Magistrate at Chief Magistrate Court No. 2, Oyo.
Olayiwola, facing a two-count charge, pleaded not guilty during his arraignment. The presiding Magistrate granted him bail, a motion that was not opposed by the police prosecutor, Fola Osegbade Esq. The case has been adjourned to October 3, 2024, for hearing.
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Oyo Branch, has been closely monitoring the case from the time of Olayiwola’s arrest to his arraignment. A strong team from the NBA Oyo Branch, led by former Branch Secretary O. Ashade Esq., was present in court to observe the proceedings. The NBA Oyo Branch has commended the Nigeria Police Force for their proactive efforts in apprehending Olayiwola during their investigation, following allegations that he falsely presented himself as a lawyer. The Oyo Bar has emphasized its commitment to ridding its ranks of fake lawyers and will ensure that this prosecution is carried out to a logical conclusion.
