Nigerian billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has filed a N1 billion lawsuit against Umar Sani, a former spokesperson to former Vice President Namadi Sambo.
This comes after Sani accused Otedola, an ally of Aliko Dangote, of benefitting from the petroleum subsidy, with his company, Zenon Petroleum and Gas Ltd., giving marked cash to Farouk Lawan under the guise of a sting operation.
Both men have been at loggerheads since Otedola reacted to the ongoing fuel supply disagreement between the Dangote Refinery and the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN), advising DAPPMAN members to adapt to change.
According to Otedola, about N2 trillion was siphoned in questionable fuel subsidy claims during the GEJ administration between 2009 and 2015, and the Federal Government need to release the report on subsidy claims.
His comment led to Sani accusing Otedola of faking moral superiority amid the Dangote Refinery vs DAPPMAN saga, and Otedola accusing Sani of “libel and attempting to rewrite history with distorted facts” in return.
In a new press statement that confirms his lawyers have been ordered to file a lawsuit, Otedola declared that the intentional lies and false allegations have to be addressed.
He concluded by saying that the suit will teach Sani not to toy with people’s hard-earned reputations for cheap propaganda.
“Because of these deliberate lies and unfounded allegations, I have instructed my lawyers to file a ₦1 billion libel suit against Umar Sani.
People must learn that reputations are not to be toyed with for cheap propaganda and also to serve as a deterrent for other mischief makers in the future. I will go to every extent that this is achieved,” he wrote.
