Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured residents of Kaiama Local Government Area in Kwara State of the federal government’s resolve to restore peace following last Tuesday’s terrorist attack on Nuku and Woro villages.
Speaking during a condolence visit yesterday, Shettima announced that President Bola Tinubu has ordered the deployment of an army battalion to the area and directed emergency agencies to provide immediate relief to affected communities.
“We are here on President Tinubu’s instruction to stand with the people of Kaiama and Kwara State after the tragedy that struck Woro and Nuku communities on the evening of February 3, 2026,” the Vice President said. “These were peaceful citizens committed to their livelihoods and practicing their faith harmoniously.”
Shettima, who led the federal delegation to meet with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and community leaders, conveyed President Tinubu’s condolences to families of the victims. He confirmed that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has been mobilized to work alongside Kwara State’s emergency services in providing support to displaced persons.
While declining to reveal specific military strategies, Shettima emphasized that comprehensive security measures are underway. “Security matters require discretion, and we cannot disclose all operational details. But rest assured, every hand is on deck to restore lasting peace to these communities,” he stated.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, representing the North East Governors Forum, offered condolences and prayers. “As Muslims, we trust in divine will, and we pray this tragedy never repeats itself. May Allah grant the deceased eternal rest,” Zulum said.
Governor AbdulRazaq commended the federal government’s rapid response, noting that military personnel are already operational under Operation Savannah Shield. “We were received at the airport by the General Officer Commanding, Second Division. A Deputy Inspector General is on ground. NEMA representatives have been here since the incident. We deeply appreciate the federal intervention,” he said.
The governor called for sustained prayers for improved security across Nigeria while pledging continued support for national leadership.
Kaiama Local Government Chairman Abdullahi Danladi and the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Mu’azu Shehu Omar, both expressed gratitude for the swift deployment of troops and thanked state and federal authorities for their prompt action.
The attack has sparked nationwide concern over rising security challenges in rural communities.
