Inter Milan manager, Simone Inzaghi, has urged his players to forget about their difficult week against Italian teams and face Barcelona with zero fear.
Recall that Inter Milan recently lost three consecutive games in all competitions for the first time since 2017, bowing out of the Coppa Italia vs AC Milan and suffering back-to-back losses in the Serie A.
Speaking ahead of the UCL semi-final clash vs Barcelona, Inzaghi revealed that the poor matches in the past week don’t erase the great season the players have delivered thus far, so he’d expect his team to rediscover its impressive form in Spain.
“Forget everything about the last week. For four years, these players have done extraordinary things and they keep doing them.
The last week doesn’t delete that work. It’s been a great season. We’ve analysed the last three games. We have to do better, but after four years we’re [still] here competing,” he said.
According to him, Flick is a brilliant coach who organises his team very well in attack, so Inter Milan must be spot on technically to get the job done against the best team in the world at the moment.
He, however, said that while Barcelona deserves to be respected for how well they’ve been doing this season, his boys cannot afford to play with any form of fear or intimidation at the Olympic Stadium.
“We are against probably the best team in the world right now. We must be very clean technically. We need a lot of components to be in place to be able to compete against such a strong team.
Flick is a great coach who has organised the team really well in attack. They get the ball back quickly when they lose it. They have excellent forwards, midfielders and a ton of players who have come through the academy.
So maximum respect, but no fear, we will look them in the eye, like we did against Bayern [Munich in the quarterfinal]. There are great teams in the competition, but we want to have our say,” Inzaghi said.
Simone maintained that Inter was still in contention for every trophy until last week, and despite some people constantly expecting the club to struggle in recent years, his boys have continued to exceed all expectations.
“[Until last week], we were fighting for every trophy when some said it would be hard to make the top four in Italy. You will never hear me speak ill of these boys and the group. Thanks to them we have exceeded all expectations over the last four years,” he added.
